La Hacienda, Heathland Course

⛳ 18 holes · par 72 Dave Thomas · 2007 Alcaidesa

The Spanish women's professional championship finale played here in 2025.

🛰️ The course from the sky

The Heathland is the second course at La Hacienda, inland from the cliffs. Dave Thomas designed it, and it opened in 2007 as Alcaidesa Heathland. It is a par 72 of 6,374 metres over hills, small valleys and lakes, with more climb and longer holes than its seaside sibling. The routing runs a large loop around a hilly central area; two par 3s play across irrigation ponds, and the round ends with four demanding par 4s. There are sea and Gibraltar views from the high ground, but the wind is gentler here than on the Links. The course shares the resort's clubhouse, driving range and buggy fleet, and it hosts the Santander women's professional championship, a Ladies European Tour access event. It suits players who want the La Hacienda setting at a lower price, or a calmer second round on a windy day. Rates in 2026 start around 69 euros; the resort prices with demand, so check the club website for your date.

The clubhouse table

Sal Verde and the Calma halfway house are open to the public, and worth the drive on their own.

What the internet says

Most platforms rate the resort as one unit: 8.5 from 376 reviews on Leadingcourses (read 2026) and 4.1 from 76 on Golfshake, with 98 percent happy to return. For the Heathland alone, Hole19 shows 4.2 and Top100GolfCourses user reviews average about 3.5 of 5, lower than the Links. Reviewers call it good exercise with fine views and fair value, and some prefer its variety to the Links. Warnings: condition swings, and the resort-wide Golfshake condition sub-score of 3.2 is the weakest mark.

The course and the greens

Reviews split. Some visitors found excellent greens and a well kept course, while others say the Heathland sits clearly below the Links, especially after wet winters.

Arrival and the welcome

Reviewers describe the reception staff and caddie master as very friendly and helpful.
