Planning a golf trip?

A booker puts the whole thing together: tee times, hotel, buggies, transfers. YourBirdyBreaks is run right here on the coast. GolfInfo and Greenfee365 sell tee times for every course on this list. We list the courses and the real prices; they do the booking.

How to book golf on the Costa del Sol

Booking a round here is easier than most visitors expect. Almost every course on the coast is open to the public: pick a course, book a tee time, pay the green fee, play. No member needed, no invitation. Only three clubs are truly closed to visitors, and a handful ask for extra steps.

The three ways to book

Straight with the club: every course below has the club's own booking link and phone number, and direct is best for a single round. Through a booker: for several rounds or a whole trip, the three booking sites above do it in one go. Or your hotel: golf hotels book for their guests, sometimes at partner rates. We list the courses and the real prices; the booking itself always happens with the club or the booker.

When to book

Golf high season here is the opposite of beach season. October to May is when the world comes to play, and the famous courses fill days or weeks ahead. Summer is the quiet, cheap season: the same course that costs 130 euros in March can cost 60 in August. Twilight rounds from mid-afternoon are the cheap way in all year, where clubs offer them.

What it costs, roughly

Green fees run from about 45 euros at the friendly local courses to 600 at Valderrama. About half the courses include the shared buggy; where they don't, it is 20 to 70 euros, most at 40 to 50. Rental clubs are about 40 euros where offered. Every course's real numbers, with the date we checked them, are in the list above.

Handicap certificates

Most open courses never ask for one. The famous ones do: Valderrama wants 24 for men and 32 for women, Real Club Sotogrande 24 and 30. If you have an official handicap, bring proof. If you are new to golf, pick from the many courses that just want you to keep pace.

Small things worth knowing

Soft spikes only. A collared shirt keeps every starter happy. In summer, book the buggy when you book the round, courses run out.

Can I join a club here?

That is the other big question, and the straight answer is: it depends on the club. Some are open, some have waiting lists, some sell rounds in packs instead of memberships. We asked every club directly: the answers are on each course in the list above and on every course page.

Learning it here

The coast teaches golf well. Miguel Ángel Jiménez runs his own academy in Torremolinos, floodlit with Trackman and balls at 2 euros for 20. Manuel Piñero teaches at La Quinta, the Nicklaus Academy lives at Finca Cortesín, Michael Campbell's school at Villa Padierna's Tramores, and the Alto Club added the Suzann Pettersen academy with its par 3 nine in 2025. For pure practice, Greenlife's 28 Toptracer bays are the region's biggest, and El Chaparral's floodlit Toptracer runs to 11 at night.

What the words mean

Green fee The price of one round.

Twilight A cheaper round late in the day.

Buggy The little cart you drive. A trolley is the thing you pull your bag on.

Handicap certificate Paper proof of your playing level. Only the famous clubs ask for it.

Par The strokes a good player needs. Par 72 is a full course; a par 3 course is a short one.

Pay and play Open to anyone who pays. No membership needed.

Links A seaside course on open dunes. Parkland is a course among trees.

Society A group of golfers who play together regularly.

Shotgun start Everyone starts at the same time from different holes, tournament style.

Tipping at the golf clubs is simple: it is not expected, and nobody will ask. If someone cleans your clubs and shoes after the round, or looks after your bag, a euro or two is a nice thank-you and always enough. In the clubhouse restaurant, do what you would anywhere in Spain: round up or leave a few coins. Nothing awkward happens if you tip nothing at all.

The usual good sense applies at every course: keep an eye on your clubs and your phone, and leave nothing visible in the car or valuable in the buggy.

Every fact here comes from public sources and the clubs themselves, with the day it was checked shown on each course. Spotted something wrong? Tell us and it gets corrected.
