La Hacienda, Links Course

⛳ 18 holes · par 72 Peter Alliss & Clive Clark, redesigned by Kurtis Bowman · 1992 Alcaidesa

The resort calls it the only links-style course in southern Europe. Wind, sea, and Gibraltar across the water; best course in Spain at the 2023 World Golf Awards.

🛰️ The course from the sky

La Hacienda Links, called Alcaidesa Links until the resort's rebrand, opened in 1992. Peter Alliss and Clive Clark designed it on low cliffs between Sotogrande and Gibraltar. American architect Kurtis Bowman rebuilt every tee, green and bunker in a redesign begun in 2022, as part of the resort's relaunch with a new clubhouse. The resort calls it the only links-style course in southern Europe; Top100GolfCourses describes it as a clifftop seaside course rather than a true links. Either way, it is open, exposed golf beside the sea. The middle holes, 5 to 14, run along the coast, with views of Gibraltar and, on clear days, the African coast. Wind is part of the course, and scores change a lot from day to day. Par is 72, about 5,900 metres from the white tees. It was named best course in Spain at the 2023 World Golf Awards. High-season rates in 2026 start around 199 euros. It suits golfers who accept wind; a sheltered inland course is an easier choice.

The clubhouse table

Sal Verde and the Calma halfway house are open to the public, and worth the drive on their own.

What the internet says

The resort's combined Leadingcourses listing scores 8.5 from 376 reviews (read 2026). On Golfshake the resort holds 4.1 from 76 reviews with 98 percent ready to return, but the condition sub-score is a low 3.2. Golf in Spain user reviews cluster near 4 of 5. Players everywhere praise the views, the wind challenge and the new clubhouse and staff. The clear warning since the redesign: prices have risen sharply from Alcaidesa days, and several reviewers say conditioning does not yet match the new price.

The course and the greens

Recent reviewers describe the Links in top condition with fast greens. A few mention wild boar damage in the rough, but say the greens and fairways were untouched.

Arrival and the welcome

Visitors praise a professional reception and very friendly staff. Several mention their clubs going straight onto a waiting buggy while they had a coffee.
