Atalaya Golf, Old Course

⛳ 18 holes · par 72 Bernhard von Limburger · 1968 Estepona

For years the headquarters of the PGAs of Europe.

🛰️ The course from the sky

Atalaya Golf and Country Club sits just east of Estepona, and the Old Course is one of the coast's original layouts. The German architect Bernhard von Limburger designed it, and it opened in 1968. For years the club was the European base of the PGAs of Europe. The course is a par 72 of about 6,100 metres from the back tees. Wide fairways run between mature trees, the greens are raised, the bunkers are large, and the slopes stay gentle, so it is one of the few courses here that is easy to walk. Named holes include El Diablo, the par-3 3rd over water, and El Arroyo, the 12th, the hardest hole on the card. It suits golfers of most levels who want traditional parkland golf rather than modern resort golf. The 2026/27 operator price lists disagree on this one, showing 104 to 131 euros; check the club's own booking for your date.

What the internet says

Leadingcourses rates Atalaya's two courses as one club: 7.6 from 295 reviews (read 2026). For the Old Course alone, Golfshake users give 4.2 of 5 from 22 reviews, and 94 percent would play again; user reviews on Top100GolfCourses sit around 4 of 5. Players praise the fairways, the quick greens, the open feel and the staff, and more than one compares it to a good English parkland course. The warnings: parts of the clubhouse feel dated, you need a buggy to reach the driving range, and a few reviewers question the value at current prices.
