Calanova Golf Club
Hillside sea views and one of the biggest pro shops in Spain.
🛰️ The course from the sky↓
Calanova is a one-course club on the hillside above La Cala de Mijas. It opened in 2006, designed by Julián García Mayoral for the Aymerich golf group. It is a par 72 of 5,866 metres, built to USGA standards, with large shaped greens of more than 450 square metres that give the staff endless pin positions. The land climbs and drops, so nearly every hole has a view of the sea or the Mijas mountains, and nearly nobody walks; a shared buggy is included in every green fee, which is rare on the coast. The clubhouse terrace looks down the valley to the water, and the pro shop is one of the biggest in the area; players mention it in reviews. It suits mid and high handicaps who accept some blind shots in exchange for views. The club's 2026 rates run 68 euros in summer, 85 to 99 euros in the shoulder seasons, and 110 euros at the October to November peak, twilight cheaper.
The club's own 2026 card, shared buggy included: 85 euros in low season, 105 in mid, 130 in high; early riser and twilight 90 to 110. Packs of 10 rounds 630 to 800, 20 rounds 1,200.
A 12 month membership is 4,800 euros, 7,200 for a couple; members' guests pay 60 to 99 a round (verified with the club, Sep 2026).
A practice range on site.
Restaurante Calanova runs as a restaurant in its own right, with events and live music.
What the internet says
On Leadingcourses it scores 8.1 from 681 reviews, one of the biggest review counts in the Mijas area (read 2026). Golfshake shows 4.1 from 99 reviews with 96 percent ready to return; course condition and hospitality both score 4.5, and one reviewer calls the pro shop the biggest golf shop he has seen. Players praise the fast greens and the views. The warnings: the two finishing holes disappoint several reviewers, value at peak prices scores only 3.8, and without a buggy the slopes are serious.
The course and the greens
Reviewers on TripAdvisor and Leading Courses praise the greens again and again, and some call them the best they have played anywhere. They are small and have a lot of break, so putting is a real test.
Arrival and the welcome
Visitors describe friendly staff at reception, in the halfway house and in the large pro shop. Many reviews say guests are made to feel welcome.
