Doña Julia sits on high ground above Casares Playa, between the sea and the Sierra Bermeja. The club names Antonio Garrido, a Spanish Ryder Cup player of the 1970s, as its designer, and the course opened in 2005. It is a par 71 of 6,021 metres from the white tees, with six tee sets; from the tips it is a serious test, with a slope of 144. The land falls toward the water, so many holes play downhill with long sea views. The hole everyone remembers is the 8th, a downhill par 5 of 612 metres, one of the longest holes on the coast. The slopes make walking hard work, and a shared buggy is part of every green fee. The club's 2026 fees are 84 euros in low season and 95 in high season, which here means spring and autumn; nine holes cost 59 to 65 euros. The Albrecht Golf Guide shows 3.8 of 5 from 34 reviews. Players praise the sea views, the greens and the friendly welcome, and many call the course good value. The repeated warnings: it is very hilly, with long climbs between some greens and tees, so take the buggy; there is no proper driving range to warm up on; and some reviewers feel the facilities are thin for the price.
