El Paraíso Golf Club

⛳ 18 holes · par 71 Gary Player with Ron Kirby · 1973 Estepona

A European Tour stop in 1974, the year after opening. Today the Thursday home of the Golf the Costa society league.

🛰️ The course from the sky

El Paraíso is one of the oldest clubs on this stretch of coast. Gary Player designed it with Ron Kirby, and it opened in 1973. One year later it held a European Tour event, the 1974 El Paraíso Open, won by Peter Oosterhuis. The course is a par 71 of about 6,000 metres in the El Paraíso valley, with La Concha mountain behind and the sea below. Two nines return to a clubhouse converted from old country houses. The fairways are wide and lined with palms, but lakes and streams cross the whole course and collect careless shots. The best-known hole is the par-5 6th, a dogleg around a lake to a green on two levels. It suits most levels, and the social side is strong: the Golf the Costa society plays its weekly league here, usually on Thursdays, and membership needs no share purchase, which is rare on this coast. The 2026/27 operator lists show 144 to 156 euros, buggy not included.

The fee does not include the buggy.

Membership

A members' owned club. Shares sell for about 10,000 euros and new members pay a 9,000 entry fee, 16,000 for a couple; the yearly fee is then 2,261 unlimited or 1,130 for 25 rounds. Without a share: Introductory Unlimited 3,500 a year, or Introductory Limited 1,300 plus 29 to 35 a round (verified with the club, Aug 2026).

The clubhouse table

Open to members, green fee players and the general public, in the club's own words, breakfast through dinner.

What the internet says

On Leadingcourses, El Paraíso scores 8.1 from 164 reviews (read 2026). Golfshake users give 4.2 of 5 from 36 reviews, and 96 percent would play again. The Albrecht Golf Guide shows 3.9 of 5, and user reviews on Top100GolfCourses sit around 4 of 5. Players praise the classic layout, the greens, the welcoming staff and the clubhouse food; the tapas get named again and again. The warning theme is value: Golfshake's value sub-score is the weakest mark at 3.8, and reviewers note the price has climbed fast. A few also report slow rounds in high season.

The course and the greens

Most reviewers find the course in very good shape with quick greens that run true. A few visitors arrived just after green maintenance and found the surfaces poor for a short time.

Arrival and the welcome

TripAdvisor visitors describe a warm welcome and a great atmosphere. Reviewers repeatedly call the staff extremely friendly and helpful.
