La Cañada is the municipal club of Guadiaro, the village above Sotogrande, and the first public golf course on the Costa del Sol. It grew out of the local community that worked on the Sotogrande estates, and the club was founded in 1982. Robert Trent Jones Sr designed the original nine holes, today's back nine. Dave Thomas designed the newer nine, opened in 2002, now the front nine. The course is a par 71 of about 5,900 metres, with slopes but walkable, native trees, and sea views from the higher ground. The finish is the part players talk about: the par-3 17th and the 18th, played across the ravine (the cañada) that gives the club its name. It suits golfers who want a real course at a fair price rather than resort service. Green fees in 2026 sit roughly between 45 and 75 euros. The club runs one of Spain's biggest junior schools, and members fill weekend mornings, so book ahead online.
The club's own card: 75 euros in low season, 90 in high; nine holes 47 to 50, the buggy 40. Vouchers of 5 rounds 360, 10 for 670, 20 for 1,240.
Two doors. Temporary membership: a year is 1,450 euros (2,400 a couple) plus 5 euros a round, or 1,900 (3,300) with the buggy; six months 950 or 1,300. Full membership is a lifelong family right: an entry fee of 2,000 to 8,000 euros depending on income, then 432 a year plus 216 for a spouse, and rounds cost 1 euro (verified with the club, Sep 2026).
A big practice ground with covered and open bays, two putting greens, an approach area and a bunker.
Restaurante Mulligan runs as a local public restaurant; families come for lunch without touching a club.

On Leadingcourses it scores 7.5 from 156 reviews (read 2026). Golfshake users give 4.5 from 17 reviews, and 100 percent would play again. Golf-service.com shows 3.96 of 5 from 71 ratings. The praise is constant across platforms: value for money, the two closing holes, friendly staff, good cheap food. The warnings are also constant: maintenance is a level below the famous neighbours, the clubhouse is dated, and pace can slow when the course is full.
