Santa María Golf & Country Club
🛰️ The course from the sky↓
Santa María sits in the Elviria hills, ten kilometres east of Marbella. Antonio García Garrido designed it, and it opened in 1991 with nine holes; it grew to eighteen, and in 2018 the club rebuilt holes 9 and 10, taking the course past 6,100 metres with a par of 72. The two nines feel different: the original holes are shorter and tighter between the trees, while the newer land opens out, with lakes in play and sea views from the higher ground. It is a friendly length for mid and high handicaps, and the clubhouse restaurant has its own following among visiting golfers. The club publishes a clear rate sheet, which is not common here. Official 2026 rates: 130 euros for mornings in the two high seasons (March to May and September to November), 105 euros early bird, 85 euros twilight; 80 euros in summer and February; and 75 to 85 euros from December to January 2027. A buggy is 40 euros. Book by email or through the club's online tee sheet.

What the internet says
Leadingcourses users give 7.5 from 100 reviews (read 2026). On Golfshake it scores 4.1 of 5 from 64 reviews and 94 percent would play again, with hospitality the best sub-score at 4.3; reviewers praise the views, the fairways and the restaurant, best prawns pil pil included. The repeated complaints: the redesigned 9th divides opinion, with several reviewers calling the hole unfair; pace slows at busy tee-time spacing; and practice facilities score just 3.4, the weakest mark.
The course and the greens
Many reviewers praise a well presented course with good greens. Some recent reviews disagree and report tired tee boxes and damaged greens, so experiences vary.
Arrival and the welcome
TripAdvisor visitors often mention friendly, helpful staff in the pro shop and restaurant. Most describe a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere.
