Golf Torrequebrada
A Gancedo classic over the hills, sea in view most of the way round. Spanish Open 1979, with Langer and Lyle in the field.
🛰️ The course from the sky↓
Golf Torrequebrada opened in 1976 in Benalmádena, twenty minutes from Málaga airport. Pepe Gancedo, called the Picasso of golf, designed it on free ground, with no housing plan forcing the routing. It is a par 72 of about 5,850 metres from the back tees. The land rises and falls, so a buggy helps, and many holes show the sea. Lakes, deep bunkers and several doglegs make it a thinking course, and the club planted more than one hundred kinds of trees. Holes 12 to 14 turn around a central lake, and the short 7th looks at the Mediterranean. The course hosted the Spanish Open in 1979; Miguel Ángel Jiménez worked that event as a young caddie. It suits players who accept slopes and want a real test close to town. Green fees move with season and hour: most 2026 dates sell for about 120 to 160 euros, summer closer to 90, and a buggy costs about 45 euros. Booking online brings the lower rates.
Summer to peak span; the buggy, about 45 euros, rides separately on most rates. Twilight runs 53 to 71 euros in 2026, 55 to 78 in 2027; the start hour is posted the day before.
No traditional membership here. The club runs a Privilege Card instead, and the waiting time for one is about three years (verified with the club, Aug 2026).
48 hitting bays, 8 of them covered, plus two putting and chipping areas.
The clubhouse says everyone is welcome, golfer or not, from 8 in the morning with a kitchen that never stops.
What the internet says
On Leadingcourses it scores 8.4 from 271 reviews (read 2026), with a Golfers' Choice 2026 label. Golfshake users give 4.4 from 64 reviews and 96 percent would play again. Hole19 golfers rate it 4.6 from more than 100 reviews. Players praise the sea views, the varied holes and the welcome to all levels. The warning themes: greens and general condition swing with the season (the Golfshake condition sub-score is 3.7), value for money scores only 3.7 against fees over 100 euros, and better players find it on the short side.
