Nestled in the hills near Marbella and Istán, Triple A Marbella is a non profit animal shelter dedicated to rescuing and caring for abandoned dogs and cats. It’s run by volunteers and funded entirely through donations, making every bit of help valuable, whether it’s through adoption, donations, or simply lending a hand.
I try to go as often as possible, usually on weekends, to help with dog walking. It’s a small effort, but it makes a big difference. The dogs get two daily walks, and for many of them, this is their only chance to stretch their legs, breathe fresh air, and feel a little freedom outside the shelter.
If you’re in Marbella and want to give back in a meaningful way, Triple A is one of the best places to do it. Here’s everything you need to know before heading up there.
What You Can Do at Triple A
Triple A isn’t just a shelter, it’s a community. Whether you’re looking to adopt, donate, or just spend time with the animals, there’s a way for everyone to get involved.
• Dog Walking. A great way to help the animals and get outside. The walks are typically 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how many volunteers are there
• Cat and Dog Adoption. They have plenty of animals looking for a home, from puppies and kittens to older rescues
• Donations and Sponsorship. If you can’t adopt, you can sponsor a dog or cat to help cover food and medical care
• Helping Around the Shelter. Volunteers also assist with cleaning, feeding, and general care
Dog Walking. What to Expect
If you’re coming up to walk the dogs, Barbara, one of the organizers, will guide you through the basics. Every dog has been pre approved for walking, but some are stronger or have specific needs. You’ll get a leashed dog, take them out for a short walk, and then return for another.
A few things to keep in mind:
• Double leash your dog. It’s a safety measure to prevent escape
• No contact with other dogs or walkers. You don’t know their past, trauma, or triggers
• Be mindful of your dog’s reactions. Some have been through a lot, and the walk is their time to feel at ease
• Always hold onto your leash. Never let go, even for a second
• Enjoy it. This is the best part of their day
The community at Triple A is welcoming, and walking dogs here is completely free. You just show up, help out, and do something good.
Why Visit
For many of these animals, the shelter is the only home they’ve known. A simple walk, a little attention, and some fresh air go a long way. And who knows? You might meet a dog that changes your life.
I’ve taken many clients up to Triple A, and it’s always an eye opening experience. Some have even adopted. If you’re in Marbella and looking for something meaningful to do, this is one of the most rewarding ways to spend your time.
